Our Youth are taught through our programs cultural values, which include respecting not only themselves but others as well. Some things that are taught to the youth include Native Youth Olympic and Dene games, subsistence, foraging, hunting and fishing, along with cultural drum and dance.
The mission of the Salamatof Tribe 'Duhdeldiht' Youth Program is to empower Alaska Native youth by fostering cultural pride, leadership development, wellness, and career exploration through meaningful engagement and mentorship. We aim to equip our participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become resilient leaders who positively impact their communities and perpetuate their cultural heritage.
Our vision is to create a future where Alaska Native youth are deeply connected to their cultural roots, leading with strength, resilience, and a sense of purpose. We envision a generation of empowered leaders who embrace their unique identities, embodying the values of their ancestors while navigating modern challenges. Through the 'Duhdeldiht' program, we strive to inspire and support Alaska Native youth to realize their full potential, fostering a vibrant and thriving future for their communities and the greater Alaska Native population.

Employing youth between the ages of 16-19 in the summer. Working on various projects that serve our local elders, families and community. We will also have an educational component added to our program for participants to learn about life skills, workforce development and cultural knowledge
Native Youth Olympics (NYO); We teach our youth the traditional NYO games, these "games" which are the same ones our ancestors used to teach their youth. Through these practices and competitions, we also teach our youth not only self-respect, but how to respect peers and elders by using culturally appropriate role modeling.
Drum “Idełq’en (He is keeping the fire burning). We started our drum in the fall of 2022, in order to be a part of our drum group, we ask that our youth and participants to be alcohol and drug free. The drum is a tool to keep our youth committed to healthy activities. It is also a great opportunity to teach our youth our native language. Our drum group is frequently requested by other entities to preform, this really gives our youth the chance to take pride in our culture.
We ethically harvest different culturally significant items such as fish, medicinal plants, and berries to be processed. This is a great way to teach our youth how to process foods and medicine from the land and how important this land is to us. The youth get the opportunity to help our local elders by giving the processed items to our elders at no charge.
